Industrial Engineering (IE) is one of the most important engineering with application in companies and is considered necessary for the development of any country, because it implies the knowledge of several techniques and tools, both practical and scientific, which is relevant in each activity in an industrial complex or a productive society. IE had its beginnings in 1850 and since then, it has been developed in all areas, so it has a multidisciplinary approach and its application can currently be found in design, logistics, finance, decision making, management, quality, production processes, work study, leadership, industrial safety, teaching, medicine, supply chain, among others.
However, IE has evolved and adapted to the changes that companies face due to new materials, manufacturing technologies and production processes, information and communication technologies, as well as globalized markets. This evolution has forced the generation of new algorithms, tools, processes and production methodologies that can respond to the needs of companies under current conditions.
This book is aimed to reports those most advanced applications in the industrial engineering field to guarantee products with an appropriate quality and delivery time. The book is aimed to cover all the procurement process for raw material, production process or transformation and final product distribution, considering always the human resource required in every production stage.

The target audience includes researchers, industrial engineers laboring in industries, business professionals responsible for management and decision-makers, graduate and undergraduate students, educated science enthusiasts and the general professional public that is commitment with resource optimization in industrial engineering. Therefore, chapters need to address both scientific and practical implications of industrial engineering applied to manufacturing or production process.
Type of contributions and length
For this book, the following type of contributions are welcome:
- Case studies: In-depth reports of techniques, tools and algorithms applied in industrial engineering applied to manufacturing processes.
- Full research papers: covering both quantitative and qualitative contributions that study aspects of industrial engineering applied to manufacturing processes. Only completed research will be considered, meaning that research in progress will not be considered or included in the book, because the results obtained are not available.
- Conceptual papers: Contributions that synthesize existing studies and summarize a research topic associated to Industrial Engineering in manufacturing process.
This type of contributions are typically 18 to 22 pages in length (excluding references) when applying the Springer formatting instructions. Contributions should be original and unpublished and not submitted for publication elsewhere.
Submission Guidelines and Other Considerations
Chapters submitted must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in other journals or books, though they may represent significant extensions of prior research presented in conferences. All submitted chapters will undergo a rigorous peer-review process (with at least two reviewers) that will consider programmatic relevance, scientific quality, significance, originality, style and clarity.
The acceptance process will focus on chapters that address relevant contributions in the form of theoretical and applied research; case studies applied to production or manufacturing process and proposing new perspectives, techniques and tools for developing and improving manufacturing and management with industrial Engineering. Submission deadline: February 15th, 2020.
Completion of first‐round reviews: March 15th, 2020.
Submission of revised chapters: April 15th, 2020.
Target of the second (last) round of reviews: May 15th, 2020.
Publication (tentative): December 2020.
